Market Research is a process of collection and analysis of data for the purpose of study of the requirements of specific markets, acceptability of products, target market and competition and methods of developing and exploiting new markets. But before one starts conducting market research and strategy studies one has to keep this fact in mind that it requires a comprehensive understanding of the problem to be addressed, the market, the application of research procedures.

The primary goal of any market research project is to achieve an increased understanding of the subject matter.

The information collected through market research can be divided in two categories, primary information which is gathered through primary research like Email, telemarketing and personal interviews. The other category, secondary information is gathered through secondary research on compiled database organized by a source.

Primary Research

When research is conducted to gather original data, it is called primary research. For this original research plan must be devised for data collection, data input and then the production and analysis of the subsequent results. Although it is a lengthy and expensive to conduct, results of the research are original hence more relevant to the needs of the client. The two basic types of primary research are qualitative and quantitative

Quantitative Research
Quantitative research is numerically oriented, and requires measurement of market phenomena and often involves statistical analysis. The main rule with quantitative research is that every respondent is asked the same series of questions. The approach is very structured and normally involves large numbers of interviews/questionnaires.

Qualitative Research
Qualitative research provides an understanding of how or why things are as they are. Unlike quantitative research there are no fixed set of questions but, instead, a topic guide is used to explore various issues in-depth. The discussion between the interviewer and the respondent is largely determined by the respondents’ own thoughts and feelings. As with quantitative techniques, there are also various types of qualitative methodologies.

Descriptive research is the most commonly used and the basic reason for using this is to identify the cause of a market phenomena. For instance, this research could be done in order to find out about a which particular age group is buying a particular brand of a consumer good, and whether a company’s market share differs between geographical regions or to discover the number of competitor a company has in a targeted marketplace.

Casual Research is done to find out the consequent effect of changing one variable on another. The research is used to measure what impact a specific change will have on existing market conditions and helps to predict hypothetical scenarios upon which a company can base its business plan. To summarize, causal research is a way of forecasting how different actions now will have an impact on a business in the future.

Exploratory research allows market researcher to gain a greater understanding of a specific subject about which little is known. For example, just because generally we have idea that 3G phones exist, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we understand how they work. Exploratory research can help to garner information in this instance. It differs mainly in design from descriptive research, exploratory research is used principally to gain a deeper understanding of something. The design is far more flexible and dynamic than that of descriptive research.

Are you trying to figure out how you can be among the most successful entrepreneurs in the planet? Well, forget about all the marketing trends and studies that keep you awake all night.

You are truly wasting your time and resources only if you make the most common mistake when marketing any business. That is to write a blah and dull headline that would make your target clients weep with boredom every time they read your marketing collaterals, even in as small a marketing piece as your business card printing.

Here is another marketing fact: there are five times as many people who read the headlines as much as the content in the body of an advertisement. It just goes to show that if you are a marketer utilizing the power of prints ads, including getting your cards from an online business card printing or otherwise, you spend almost 80% of your marketing budget on your headline. Thus, it is pretty easy to conclude that the headline is the most crucial element in any of your print ad copy.

So why do a large percentage of ads in the market seem to forget about this very important fact? A very large percentage indeed of marketing collaterals forget to carry a headline – a powerful one at that. On the other hand, those that do remember tend to provide cute and catchy slogans that would never be a headline that grabs you and convinces you to take the offer.

When we say headline, we are actually talking about a statement that is benefit rich and can grab your target clients’ attention and never let go. No matter where you put it, your headline is the most important part of your print ads; hence, it should be the one thing that should occupy more than 80% of your time, effort and resources. When you begin to realize this crucial fact, you will then have a marketing campaign that would be the most effective in your arsenal of marketing tools.

Creating a headline entails hard work. Headlines do not just dangle in the air every time you need it. Creating great headlines take practice, hard work, a great amount of patience, and a lot of creativity. Just imagine that you have to attract an otherwise already pre-occupied target client, and you got your work cut out for you.

The headline is the very first thing that your prospect sees and reads when they have your marketing tool in their hands. In that few seconds of the time that they are handling your business card printing or flyer, you should already be able to help them decide whether to read you or not. In addition, we hope that you can make them do the former.

The bottom line is this: your headline should be able to grab your reader’s attention. If it does not grab them by the throat and hold them right away, your 80% of your marketing budget is just a big waste of your time and money.

While Wall Street seems to be on the road to recovery, the PR New York scene appears to be ready to join the party. Having come through one of the worst recessions in modern history which witnessed the shutdown of many media outlets (quite a few favored by the PR New York crowd, it is safe to say), this might be wishful thinking…Maybe not…

Certainly the economic climate has had an impact. Budgets have declined and, as a result, a number of PR New York firms shut their doors, merged out or scaled back their operations. However, with problems come opportunities… companies and marketers still have customers to reach, products and services still get launched, people still run for elected office… You get the idea, life goes on… perhaps a bit smarter if not cheaper…

Another factor is trust… Does anybody trust anything or anybody these days? Witness the financial marketplace and the current events unfolding in Washington, DC. Heartening to the PR New York world is the fact that public relations understands how to build and sustain beneficial and trustful relationships.

There are a number of recent studies that seem to bear out the cause for optimism that seems to be gripping the PR New York community (and probably a lot of other places as well)… These studies reveal that PR tops other communication disciplines, such as advertising and journalism. The annual Veronis Suhler Stevenson study predicts a consolidated aggregated growth rate for public relations of nearly 10 percent for the years 2008-2012. Even in a downturned economy, spending on PR in the U.S. grew by more than 4 percent in 2008 and nearly 3 percent in 2009 – to $3.7 billion. And, finally, the rise of the Internet and social media has given PR a big boost.

Other reasons why the PR New York scene is in an upbeat mood include: advances in technology, the decline of traditional media, reduced trust in business, the advent of the 60-second news cycle, the list is endless.

Much has been both said and written about the decline in consumer spending during the recession; much less is said about the opportunity that lies in a highly disrupted marketplace. While it’s true that customers are more knowledgeable (and often skeptical) than ever, this recession has done what generations of marketers have tried and failed to accomplish “opening consumers” minds to new brands and new options.

A new consumer tracking study “The Changing American Consumer” demonstrates an increasing willingness to try new products even as spending declines; it’s our belief this indicates tremendous opportunity to position brands to steal considerable market share in the next year, allowing for tremendous growth once the recession ends. Using research to understanding the touchpoints that appeal to this “new consumer mindset” is vital in positioning your brand for future success.

The State of the Consumer Market

As the markets crash, people panic. We believe that panic creates an ?inverse bubble? ?one that has precisely the opposite effect of the recent tech or real estate bubbles. Instead of artificially driving profits and prices up, the inverse bubble artificially pushes them down. But as with any other bubble, it will “pop” and how your brand is positioned when it bursts is vital. A few questions every company needs to ask themselves:

Did reactive pricing decisions damage the brand?

Will you have taken advantage of disrupted purchase behaviors to win new customers?

Do you understand what changes are temporary, and which are permanent?

How are customer mindsets continuing to evolve?

The Opportunity: don’t believe an opportunity exists during these dark economic times? A few data points should convince you:

People Are Reconsidering: Nearly half (48%) of Americans report considering brands they haven’t considered before.

People Are Noticing: 44% of Americans report paying more attention to advertisements than they used to.

People’s Mindsets Are Changing: While eventually the recession will end and purchase attitudes will settle, some attitudes may stay; 56% of Americans see the recession as an opportunity to start living a less materialistic life.

Necessity of Market Research – New “Brand Bonding”

For many brands, this is a chance of a lifetime to grab market share – media is cheap and minds are open. In order to ensure that you are part of this new “brand bonding”, market research is needed to understand precisely how the new consumer mindsets affect your brand and your category specifically, and the new communications strategy you’ll need to reach them. While price is important, it doesn’t and can’t define most brands over the long term.

Relevant Studies to Consider

While the best use of research and correct methodology is highly individualized for each brand, a few studies every marketer should consider:

Key Assumptions and Mindset Test: Every brand works off key internal assumptions about your customer. Many of those no longer hold true. Are the attributes you base your communications on still relevant? Is a different approach to similar services needed?

Concept Tests: As more people consider your brand, it’s crucial to understand how new products and services could make your brand appealing to a broader audience. What can be developed to grab as much new share as possible without alienating core consumers?

Communications Testing: With people paying more attention than ever to communications and media available at discounted rates, now is the time to test and then invest. Whether conducting ad or communications testing, developing new stated claims or other stats that can be pitched to the media, or coming up with the precise positioning and words that appeal to a wider audience, research is a fundamental building block that ensures your media spend will be effective.

Ethnographies and Qualitative Deep Dives: Mini ethnographies or qualitative deep dives are an excellent way to move beyond the functional and uncover emotional touchpoints that can set your brand apart. How do consumers talk about and think about your brand? How has this changed? What needs are going unmet and how can your brand capitalize on this?

Every business owner creates her own definition of success. Whether she strives for growth over time, or just wants to maintain what she has well into the future, one key aspect of achieving success is planning. Just as every business owner creates her own definition of success, every business owner must also create her own plan to take her business from where it is now, to where she wants it to be.

A recent study from Jane Out of the Box, an authority on female entrepreneurs, reveals there are five distinct types of women in business. Based on professional market research of more than 2,500 women in business, this study shows that each type of business owner has a unique approach to running a business, and therefore, each one has a unique combination of needs. This article outlines three of the five types and provides advice about planning steps that meet the needs of the business owner and the business, now and in the future.

Jane Dough is an entrepreneur who enjoys running her business and generally, she makes a nice living. She is comfortable and determined in buying and selling, which may be why she’s five times more likely than the average female business owner to hit the million dollar mark. Jane Dough is clear in her priorities and may be intentionally and actively growing an asset-based or legacy business. It is estimated that 18% of women entrepreneurs fall in the category of Jane Dough.

Of all five types of entrepreneurs, Jane Dough is the most likely to have a plan for her business. She is driven to create a large business that has a life beyond herself and her own needs and interests. She enjoys strategizing and planning for long-term growth, and is great at delegating smaller tasks so she has the time she needs to do that. One of Jane Dough’s challenges, though, is that her visions are often on a large scale, and she doesn’t communicate them effectively to members of her team. They may be scrambling behind her, talking to each other in an effort to figure it all out. Each person may receive only parts of the story, and they speculate about her expectations and what she is doing, in an effort to anticipate her needs. This speculation and confusion can create havoc for Jane Dough and her business, and can slow down the progress of the plans she is making.

Here are some tips for Jane Dough on better communicating her vision and more effectively carrying out her plans:

Schedule semi-annual business planning retreats. Not only will semi-annual planning retreats keep Jane Dough focused on the gap between her current situation and her goals (which naturally shift as time passes), it also will provide her with regular, specific opportunities to communicate her vision to her team members – all at once. Communicating that vision provides team members with a cohesive overall landscape of the anticipated future. Also, giving team members the chance to brainstorm about challenges, new product or service ideas or strategies for improving operations provides Jane Dough with insight from the people on the front lines.

Create a hiring plan for the longer-term vision. Breadth and depth on a team will help a Jane Dough business owner realize the kind of growth for which she strives. A hiring plan, then, will allow Jane Dough to be effective in building strength into her organization. A well-constructed hiring plan takes into account the types of personalities a business owner enjoys working with, as well as the specific set of skills she needs in order to move her business to the next level. Draw an organizational chart detailing how each position fits with the others, and list below each position, the personality traits and skill sets it requires. With this plan at her fingertips, Jane Dough will find it easier to locate opportunities for the right people.

Systematically track key performance metrics. To grow her business quickly and long-term, a business owner must understand the gaps that exist between where her company is today, and where she wants it to be. To gain that understanding, it is imperative to create clear, measurable goals, and to track the company’s performance against those goals. For example, if a Jane Dough wants to grow her business 10 percent in the next year, she may use several strategies to meet that goal. She may change copy or design elements of her web site to sell her product more effectively. She may advertise to increase traffic to her web site. She could also test a direct mail campaign to prospects who have opted-in on her web site, but haven’t followed up with a purchase. Each of these options is measurable, and Jane Dough can track each one to determine whether it is contributing to growth – and if so, by how much. She then can direct resources to the most effective strategy.

Go Jane Go is passionate about her work and provides excellent service, so she has plenty of clients – so much so, she’s struggling to keep up with demand. At 14% of women in business, she may be a classic overachiever, taking on volunteer opportunities as well. She’s eager to make an impact on the world and she often struggles to say no. Since she wants to say yes to so many people, she may even be in denial about how many hours she actually works during the course of a week. As a result, she may be running herself ragged and feeling guilty about neglecting herself and others who are important to her.

Undoubtedly the busiest type of business owner, more than a quarter of the original 2500 researched reported working more than 50 hours per week. For most Go Jane Go entrepreneurs, business is thriving – so much so, it can be overwhelming. At first glance, it may appear that Go Jane Go doesn’t really need to plan – business is booming, her income is high, and she has (almost) more customers than she can handle. However, creating a plan may help Go Jane Go feel less overwhelmed and therefore increase her personal satisfaction.

Here are some planning tips for Go Jane Go:

Get clear on personal priorities. Taking care of oneself isn’t selfish – it’s essential to high performance. It might benefit Go Jane Go to create a vision board. Here’s how: set aside a few hours to sit down with a poster-board (or a smaller piece of blank paper) and a pile of magazines. Go through the magazines and cut out images or words that represent “the dream life,” whether it’s a picture of a woman with an umbrella drink sitting poolside, a woman running in the park with her dog, or a woman sitting in the spa … getting absolutely clear on personal priorities gives Go Jane Go an idea of exactly where she wants to be – and she can then determine how to adjust her business accordingly.

Create a parking lot. Go Jane Go entrepreneurs often have long lists of desired future accomplishments. For many, those lists cause guilt or frustration. By giving those lists a specific place to “park,” Go Jane Go entrepreneurs will find they feel less stress because they know their dreams, in written form, are right there in the parking lot – waiting (and they won’t be forgotten). Go Jane Go can keep a shorter-term list of ideas and projects in a visible place at all times, and she can file longer-term lists in her drawer for regular review. This allows her to keep track of her plans, short- and long-term, and to feel at ease knowing those plans are always accessible.

Consider narrowing the focus of the company’s marketing campaign. If Go Jane Go feels overwhelmed (it is one of the primary factors in our research’s classification of Go Jane Go), then she might consider actively seeking clients who more ideally fit in with what she enjoys most about her business. For example, let’s consider a Go Jane Go jewelry designer. Currently, she’s designing wedding sets, necklace and earring sets, and jewelry for mothers. Let’s say that she most enjoys creating wedding sets – working with a couple to design a set of rings they’ll wear forever truly meets this Go Jane Go’s desire to help people, while using her creativity. Maybe it’s time she considered planning for a slightly different future in which she designs only wedding sets. She could narrow her marketing specifically to target people looking for wedding jewelry. It may be a future different than what Go Jane Go originally intended, but she’ll find more joy in creating jewelry that brings her together with clients who want the same thing she does.

Merry Jane is an entrepreneur who is usually building a part-time or “flexible time” business that gives her a creative outlet (whether she’s an ad agency consultant or she makes beautiful artwork) that she can manage within specific constraints around her schedule. She may have a day-job, or need to be fully present for family or other pursuits. Representing about 19% of women in business, she realizes she could make more money by working longer hours, but she’s happy with the tradeoff she has made because her business gives her tremendous freedom to work how and when she wants, around her other commitments.

A majority of Merry Jane-run businesses serve as outlets for expressing creativity and skills, and staying connected to professional interests, regardless of bigger priorities. Merry Jane business owners tend to judge success by different standards than other business owners. For example, Merry Jane appreciates the flexibility to work when, where and as much as she wants. She strives to meet all her obligations well, enjoys being recognized for her gifts and talents, and relishes the freedom to say no. And when this entrepreneurial type talks about making a contribution to the household, she’s talking more than money: from running her house to running her business and everything in between, Merry Jane’s systems-oriented style keeps her busy and on task – and gives her less time than most other business owner types to work on her business. So for Merry Jane, planning is a function of balance: she wants more customers – but not too many.

Here are some tips Merry Jane may consider when planning for her future:

Find a marketing method that pumps up business, just the right amount. Research shows that most Merry Janes would like to make more money. About 57 percent of Merry Jane entrepreneurs draw less than $25,000 per year, and 75 percent draw less than $50,000. So while Merry Jane likely wants more customers, she knows that a huge marketing push might generate so many customers, her time freedom is compromised. The first step is to hone in on a very specific target with a clear message, that will attract more ideal clients. A quick and easy way to identify the target market is to survey existing customers. Merry Jane can target more similar customers when she gets the answers to questions about how customers originally heard about the business, what attracted them to the business, what set the business apart and what the business’ biggest benefits are to them. Then, Merry Jane can find a marketing system that creates a steady stream of customers, such as network marketing, affiliate marketing, or referral marketing. By creating a low-investment marketing strategy directed at ideal clients, Merry Jane can plan for more customers, and more income, in the future.

Evaluate pricing – and consider raising it. Several factors contribute to a situation in which an entrepreneur simply isn’t charging enough. Maybe she “started low” to win business and never increased rates. Maybe she didn’t know what to charge and isn’t charging rates comparable to others in her industry. Maybe she overestimated her profit margin before she actually started running the business. Several strategies exist for evaluating pricing. The first is to determine what it costs to make a product, and then add a standard markup that represents company profit. The second is to “play the numbers” with the business owner’s desired hourly rate. For example, let’s say a business owner wants to gross $50,000, working 20 hours per week (remember, most Merry Jane business owners are part-time business owners). Take $50,000, divide it by 52 weeks and multiply it by 20 hours. The result: $48.07 per hour. However, consider tweaking the numbers to add in vacation and holiday time – make it 48 weeks. Plus, an entrepreneur must keep in mind the number of billable hours she works versus the number of other hours she works. Consider that paying bills, checking e-mails, reading the mail, marketing, planning and sending invoices aren’t billable tasks. So if a business owner figures that she spends 60 percent of her time working on billable tasks, she needs to adjust her equation again. Let’s take 48 weeks at 12 billable hours per week. To reach $50,000 in a year, Merry Jane would have to charge $86.81 per hour. By playing with the numbers, an entrepreneur can figure out exactly how much she needs to charge to make the money she wants – and if she’s not charging that much now, then increasing her rates could be part of her planning steps. By increasing her income, Merry Jane would have a little more freedom to stretch the creative muscles she so loves.

Planning for a business’ future means different things for diverse entrepreneurs. Not every entrepreneur wants rapid growth, and not every entrepreneur feels overwhelmed. The key is to evaluate the current situation, carve out a plan, and design the future.

Making money from home is the desire and desire of a lot of people throughout the world. The idea of getting up in the morning and actually enjoying what you do is the ideal to a lot of people. Some folks want to get out of that 9-to-5 grind where they must work for another person who controls their time and their earnings. This is certainly one of the reasons why the idea of joining a multilevel marketing company, also recognized as network marketing, has become very accepted during the last few years. One of the biggest up-and-coming MLM companies is called VoiParty, but you might not have even heard of this company up till now.

So what does this company do? In short, this is the world’s first worldwide peer to peer IXC network. If you are not an extremely technology driven individual, you might not even understand what that means. Basically, this network marketing company is a part of the massive telecommunications industry. What they offer to business professionals is a passive income stream using the concept of linking your residential telephone and Internet access to a particular connection device. How many people do you know who desperately want to get away from their local telephone company or Internet service provider? This really is where you can actually come in and create your own passive income stream.

So how does this operate as a business opportunity? One method is by means of signing up to have the service yourself. You’ll save nearly $240-$300 yearly because you’ll be removing the long-distance piece and additional premium features from your monthly phone bill. You’ll actually get those features for free because by using the device you’re helping the company produce their own sales revenue through wholesale IXC.

Without getting too technical, the company explains that while a local call is perhaps free for you, it will surely be a long-distance call for someone else. The company uses a certain technology that captures and routes nonmember calls through the Internet with your connection. This generates cash flow throughout the system. You, as a member, will be given 70% of that income that is shared among the members each month. In spite of sharing the opportunity with your contacts and family, you can make a great passive income stream month after month.

Numerous people decide to join the network just because of the perks that they get which consist of free long distance calls to the USA and Canada, free worldwide calls, a free second line with all of those premium features and no monthly fees. It’s undoubtedly something that most people would most likely like to hear more about which makes your job selling a whole lot simpler. In addition, VoiParty contains all the normal benefits that network marketing companies own like prizes including trips, cars and cash bonuses.

Ultimately, VoiParty would seem to be a legitimate opportunity that not just helps people save money but in addition could give you a tremendous revenue stream for countless years to come. By tapping into such an up-and-coming marketplace, you’ll be getting in on the ground floor of a very unusual network marketing opportunity. You would not have to undertake any home parties or worry about going door-to-door to sell anything. Instead, your family and friends would love to see you coming if you are saving them money each month!

Regardless of whether you decide to join VoiParty or any other network marketing business. Your ability to realize success is determined by your capacity to generate prospects. If you can’t do this then you will lose.

“Make money for taking surveys”,” Cash for your opinion”, “Make easy money at home”.

Everywhere you look there is a company willing to pay people to participate in their surveys. It seems like a win win situation, the participants get paid for providing their opinion, the market research company gets paid for conducting the research and the companies, that fund the research, gathers valuable data.

But, how valuable is that data?

Well run surveys are still vital to those companies who wish to research a market and obtain feedback on particular products or services. Many people are willing to express an opinion, and a small incentive like a chance to win a prize or a small payment is often all that is required to encourage people to give up their time and participate.

For years market research companies have assembled groups of participants into survey pools or survey panels, groups of people willing to provide an opinion on a range of subjects. Often incentives of nominal value were offered as a ‘thank you’ for the participant’s time; however the explosion of ‘paid for taking surveys’ websites has spawned a new profession – the professional survey participant (PSP).

For companies that are relying on market research generated by panels of PSP’s the question they must ask is how flawed is the data that they are relying on? Does the average PSP represent a cross section of society or a niche? What social group do they really belong to and is it smart for a company to base research on groups of people that are willing to comment part time, and sometimes, full time, on anything and everything?

Not all panels should be tarnished with a negative brush after all customer and employee surveys to name just two rely on a survey pool. However, customers and employees are to some degree stakeholders in a company’s research, by participating customers will benefit from better products and services, employees will be able to voice concerns and help make improvements to working conditions and methods, more importantly the views of the customer and the employee are valuable. Likewise panels that are made up of hand picked participants chosen for their knowledge, expertise and experience are equally valid and in some cases a necessity.

The panels that should be questioned are those that are assembled by surveys that rely on large volumes of the general public whose motivation for participating is only the reward they will receive, they will often have no knowledge, understanding or interest as to the ‘who’, ‘why’ or ‘what’ of the research that is being carried out.

Research companies that attract either part-time or full time PSP’s rarely make any reference about the importance of the research they conduct but instead concentrate on offers of easy money and extra income.

Some survey methods will be more vulnerable than others, the most vulnerable perhaps being the online surveys itself. Company’s that use PSP research data have to ask themselves how many surveys would it take for each PSP to realise that the more surveys they take the more cash or other incentives they receive. Will they after completing three or four surveys even think about the question or just click on any random response?

Although telephone surveys and focus groups will be less prone to the problem of people responding in a random or unconsidered manner with each telephone survey they take, and focus group they attend, they are becoming less like a member of the general public and more like a professional respondent.

A survey can have many purposes and not all surveys are conducted with a view to being impartial and fair. Like a tobacco company that funds research into the effects of nicotine, the findings can be manipulated to reinforce a particular line of argument. Panels and PSP’s have their place but if a company is relying on good and accurate market research data – beware the survey panel!

If you need to make money from home, you’ve no doubt starting looking for work at home opportunities. Every woman who’s ever wanted to become a work at home mom, has traveled down the same path. Unfortunately, that path is littered with scams and traps to snatch money and time from honest women looking to make money from home. With a little common sense and extra research, you can surely find legitimate work at home opportunities.

The first step is to search for jobs in the right places. Don’t simply click on ads to find work. Try to find helpful groups of work at home moms, who have successful work at home jobs to assist you in your search. You can try searching on message boards, or finding e-mail groups for ideas about where to start your work at home job search. Many of these women can give you insight into which work at home opportunities are actually worth your time.

Keep in mind that there are no real ways to get rich quick on the internet or by working at home. The only people who get rich are those who are scamming others. Never believe any ad or employer who claims that you’ll get rich instantly.

There are a few red flags to look for when you’re searching for internet jobs. You should never have to pay for any work or to be put on a job lists. There are plenty of free listings available that can provide tons of opportunities. Companies that want to charge you for a list of jobs, are merely trying to get your money. These lists are often filled with dead-end leads, and/or contain other companies that just want to take your money. Many of these work at home scams, will ask you to pay a start-up (or registration) fee to (as they put it) cover the cost of the supposedly necessary training. A legitimate job will NEVER require you to pay them anything.

Another warning sign to look out for, is if the ad or website tells you to act now or immediately. You should always do your research before joining any company, and never feel pressured to make a decision right away. Many websites indicate their offer will expire on a particular date or time. But if you visit that website again the following day, you’ll notice that same ad or offer says the opportunity will expire on that day. It’s just a psychological ploy to get you to take action before you change your mind. That’s all it is.

If you are confused about a particular company or opportunity, Visit the Better Business Bureau website, and do some research on it. The BBB has files on all businesses that have had complaints filed against them. You can see what other people have to say about a particular company, and be steered away from scams.

There are some scams that have been around for years that should be avoided at all costs. These business scams have unfortunately, been successful for the scammers, so they’ll continue taking money from honest, hard-working people as long as they can continue getting away with it. If you see an offer for any of the following types of jobs, run the other way as fast as you possibly can.

Envelope stuffing is a common scam, although it’s being seen less and less these days. These jobs are normally listed as mail service jobs, and then you’re asked to pay for a start up kit. After you receive a start up kit, you’re given instructions to place your own work at home opportunity ads. You’re basically just selling the same start up kit to other people that you purchased, and becoming a scammer yourself.

Craft assembly is another type of scam that can take many forms. Typically, you receive a set of crafts to complete with instructions. You pay for the set, and then are told you’ll be reimbursed for the kits and also paid for their assembly. After working hard at assembling the kits and returning them, you’ll be told that your work isn’t up to their quality standards — whatever that is. You’ll then be out of the cost of the kits, and they’ll still sell your crafts anyway to make money on.

There are legitimate jobs out there for you, but you have to do some research on the opportunities first. With a little time and careful analysis, you can find a work at home job that’ll be rewarding and of course, scam free.

When considering any product you may want to sell online, one must understand there’s a certain amount of online market research that should be done to determine if there’s a market for the product itself.

Let’s look at 3 areas of market research that will help determine the profitability of any product under consideration.

1) Demand

The product or service has to fill a need for the customer, and determining this ahead of time will help minimize any time and cost invested. Avoid the costly mistake of assuming your own enthusiasm for a product will be matched by the marketplace.

Patience and diligence must be applied in our research to insure our marketing success. A simple Google search is a good start to judge the level of demand for any product type we may want to sell online. Also checking out Amazon and similar merchant sites will give a good indication as to product demand.

2) Competition

Next we need to determine the level of competition we face provided our research has already shown a good demand. Competition is good however too much competition can make our efforts tougher by increasing our marketing costs and decreasing our profit margins.

Here we need to take a look at the search results we found researching the demand to see how many of your competitors are paying to advertise to this market. In the right hand column you’ll see ads that are paid for by your competition. You can roughly determine how much competition you’ll be facing by the number of paid ads you find. Simply scroll thru the pages of your search results to see how many ads there are.

Realizing most people when searching for something usually won’t go much beyond page 2 or 3 in the results, you can assume that the deeper these ads show up in the results, the more competitive there is.

3) Market Niche Research

This area of your research concerns markets that appear to have a great demand and perhaps too much competition to make it worth your while. In such cases you may want to dig deeper into the market itself to see what current consumers needs may still be unfulfilled.

A simple strategy here is to do a search for ‘market/product specific’ forums targeting of course the product you’re interested in. The results will be a list of forums you can visit for this market enabling you to view questions or concerns people may have. By taking these ‘ideas’ you’ve discovered from within the forums you can again perform the same type of research to determine any demand and potential competition before committing any more time, energy, or money.

Obviously these online market research techniques we’ve reviewed are fundamental in nature. Much more detail can be given in all areas of the research process; however this detail is outside the scope and intentions of this article. The point is with a little bit of research, you can increase your chances success when selecting what it is you may want to sell online.
